District Grand Council of Warwickshire

Royal & Select Masters

The July meeting of Wretham Council 188, saw the introduction of a new Companion, and the Royal Master ceremony performed twice, all undertaken in fine style. Prior to the ceremonies, R Ill Comp Peter Wellings, District Grand Master, took great pleasure in presenting a Grand Council Certificate to Companion Christopher Wanley, who completed the fourth ceremony in April.
The Thrice Illustrious Master, Ill Comp John Handley presided over the ceremony of Select Master for Companion Keith Watkins, who was well known to many present, being the son-in-law of Ill Comp Chris Denley, Recorder of the Council, and also District Grand Recorder. Chris then acted as Conductor of the Council so that he could escort Keith through the ceremony. Following the Select Master ceremony, Ill Comp Norrie Wright was invited to take the chair for both Royal Master ceremonies, in which Companions Michael Towns and Keith Watkins were chosen. The significant part of the Royal Master ceremony is the perambulation around the Ark of the Covenant, which was in the hands of the Principal Conductor of the Work, Companion Kevin Spencer. With faultless timing, Kevin completed the perambulations in both ceremonies, and was immediately congratulated for his excellent work by the District Grand Master.
With three ceremonies and the rest of the business completed, the festive board was waiting for a very well supported meeting, particularly for a date in the middle of the summer season. Ill Comp Terry Prain, Assistant District Director of Ceremonies was on hand to assist throughout the meeting.
